Implementing system to manage the designing preproduction of cars on a single modular platform

Project goals

Developing and testing of technology to use the system powered by NX™ and Teamcenter® software (hereinafter referred to as the System) to solve strategic tasks of the enterprise and improve information support in the design departments of NAMI FGUP.

Project deadlines

May 2014 – March 2015

Project summary

Borlas Group deployed the System to manage designing preproduction at NAMI FGUP to provide:

  • Team development of an electronic product model;
  • Development and modification of design documentation;
  • Management of the electronic structure of the product;
  • Regulatory information management;
  • Product requirements management;
  • Managing scheduling of a car development plan.

Borlas Group's solution is powered by latest versions of NX (CAD / CAM system) and Teamcenter (product lifecycle management system) software by Siemens PLM Software.

Borlas ensured the implementation and integration of these systems into the existing IT infrastructure of NAMI FGUP. The solution provides for designing an electronic layout of the product, executing and modifying design documentation, managing product configuration, requirements and car development plans. Automation scope included both project to design a new car and all other design processes of the customer transferred to a single information space.

The new information system provides for the development of design documentation by means of NX tools, transferring all processes to generate documents and 3D models to the Teamcenter PLM system, and establishing the requirements and target characteristics of the family of vehicles.

Detailed coordination of the schedule of implementation teams of NAMI FGUP and Borlas Group to consider all stages of the development project provided for implementation of a PLM solution alongside development of a new family of vehicles.

Project results

  • Operations in NAMI FGUP subdivisions included in design preparation of products automated;
  • System powered by Teamcenter and NX software deployed;
  • Documentation set prepared:
    • Regulations of the Information Technology Service;
    • Regulations for the development of electronic documentation;
    • Regulations on the use of reference information;
    • Regulations of the technical documentation department;
    • Proposals to correct regulatory documentation in force at the enterprise.

As part of the automation of design and process work at NAMI FGUP, Borlas developed and implemented a post processor for program-controlled equipment. Borlas also completed the integration of unique multi-axis NC machine tools and the NX integrated CAD / CAM / CAE system.

This equipment is so far unique for multiple aspects, in particular, the machine is equipped with a specialized NC system, much different than basic systems (such as Sinumerik, Heidenhain, Fanuc) and undocumented functions. For the manufacture of parts in a complex multi-coordinate mode, this machine is equipped with a hinged head with a complex kinematic scheme.

Adaptation of the equipment was accompanied by development of the post processor, which significantly reduced the time for launching new process equipment. The post processor is designed for programs developed with the latest versions of NX software.

The video clip demonstrates the work of the post processor with a complex hinged head.
