Implementing system to manage design preparation for production and product life cycle

Main project goals

  • Arranging teamwork in a single information environment;
  • Preparing design documentation in electronic form;
  • Developing 3D models and graphic design documentation;
  • Ensuring that all the operational information is up to date.

Project deadlines

September 2013 – August 2014

Project summary

Borlas Group and Transas ZAO Unmanned Systems Division developed and implemented a system to manage the design preparation for production and the life cycle of a product powered by NX™ and Teamcenter® software products.

Here are the functional areas automated in the project:

  • Developing design documentation in electronic form:
    • Developing rules to work with an electronic layout of a product, including preparation of a graphic design documentation;
    • Preparing rules to shape the electronic structure of the product;
    • Developing a methodology to prepare design documentation for products, fully or partially consisting of electronic layouts of the product.
  • Managging master data for the tasks of design preparation of production:
    • Generating material classifier;
    • Managing standard products classifier;
    • Managing purchased item.
  • Managing electronic BOM and reporting:
    • Developing a methodology for using electronic product layouts to form its electronic structure in Teamcenter;
    • Developing Specification as required by GOST 2.106-96 on product electronic structure;
  • Developing Specification Sheet as required by GOST 2.106-96.
  • Approval and amendments to the design documentation:
    • Development of procedures for issuing design documentation in electronic form with the provision of procedures for checking documentation for manufacturability;
    • Creating a methodology for making changes (including the results of a manufacturability check) in design documentation.
  • Archiving design documentation in paper and electronic form, including management of information on paper originals, electronic mailing list, requests for making copies.

Project results

  • Design work management reached the qualitatively new tech level;
  • Reduction of labor intensity and duration of approval procedures and amendments to design documentation, data transfer for technological preparation of production in electronic form,
  • Acceleration of product development due to the creation of a unified information environment, organization of parallel work and collective interaction of specialists from various departments of the Customer.
